Generational Trauma
Do our ancestors affect
how we feel today?
Generational trauma is the trauma that extends from one generation to the next. It can create physical and / or emotional symptoms which are adapted and rewritten into the genes generation after generation, depending on life experiences.
For example, survivors of childhood violence, neglect and abuse carry the associated trauma into adulthood, leading to increased risk of anxiety, depression, PTSD and other related conditions in their children and their children’s children and so on.
There is lots of research available, if you look up “Epigenetics” and “Emotional Trauma.”
Therapy can help by enabling you to connect more deeply with your emotions in a supporting environment which allows processing to take place, so recalibrating the nervous sytsem and programming your body for safety rather than survival.
