Couples Therapy

Are there issues in your relationship that you can’t seem to move past?  Therapy can help…

Is your relationship strained or just not quite right?

Does every discussion turn into an argument, no matter how hard you try?

Are you left feeling frustrated and overwhelmed or angry and upset?

Have you reached the point where the emotional distance seems to be getting wider?

Contact me to discuss how therapy can help you move forwards.

Couples Therapy provides a safe and neutral space where you can both speak and be heard.

You will learn to express your needs without fear and listen without defensiveness.

Couples Therapy can help you find new ways to communicate as you navigate your path forwards.

Taking the step to seek help is a sign of strength and commitment to your future, however that may look.

What’s the process?

Your journey will start with a short conversation, where we get together on video to understand what is happening and what you would both like to achieve from therapy.  This is followed by a 60-minute appointment, which can be taken face-to-face or on video.  During this session, we will set some ground rules around respecting each other’s space to speak, not speaking over each other and not raising voices.  Then, I will ask you questions about your relationship and where you feel the issues lie.  You will both get equal time to speak and to answer, and I may ask you some reflective questions about what I have heard.

It is my job to help the two of you communicate in a way that is beneficial to both of you and to the health of the relationship.  It is not my job to give you advice on what you should do in your relationship or on whether or not you should stay together.

After this appointment, you will each get the opportunity for a 1-to-1 appointment with me, to discuss your individual needs, and after those appointments, we come together again for a further joint appointment where we discuss what has changed, what is better and what is ongoing.  If the individual appointments are not necessary, we will continue our joint sessions moving forwards.

Everyone is different and everyone’s needs are different, so this structure isn’t absolutely rigid, but it gives an idea of how the therapy space might look for a couple seeking support.
